The Club
The Glen Waverley Tennis Club is the oldest tennis club in the Monash area, having been established in 1906 as the Black Flats Tennis Club on a site near the corner of Springvale and Waverley Roads. In subsequent years the Club relocated three times to be eventually situated at its present location behind the Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre.
The Club has six sand filled artificial grass courts, with night lighting to five courts, and a spacious carpeted clubhouse with full kitchen, showers, licensed bar and outdoor patio. The courts are used most days and weeknights for competition and social tennis but may be hired on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on an adhoc basis.
The Club is affiliated with Tennis Victoria, Waverley & District Tennis Association (WDTA), Mid-Week Eastern Metropolitan Region Ladies Tennis Association (MEMRLTA) and Bayside Regional Tennis Association and Blackburn District Night Tennis Association (BDNTA) in which competitions our members play.
A feature of the Club over its many years to the present day, has been the availability of organised social tennis both mid-week and on Sunday afternoons, to cater for those who just want to enjoy tennis without playing in competition teams.
Club membership currently is over 300 and new members are most welcome.
Club Administration
The Club operates within a set of Rules and By-Laws of the Incorporated body. It is administered by a Management Committee of members which is elected at the Annual General Meeting held in July each year.
Players are required to comply with the Club Rules and By-Laws, which include neat dress, correct shoes and equipment, behaviour and care of courts.
Access to the courts and clubhouse is by key entry. The courts are normally locked when there is no organised tennis being played. Adult members may hire a key to allow access to the courts at any time and may invite friends to play as visitors a limited number of times per year for a visitors fee each visit.
Joining the Club
Application forms to join the Club may be downloaded or obtained from the Membership Officer, Junior Convenor or from the Club. It is recommended that Junior players who are beginners, receive some coaching before joining so that they will get more enjoyment from playing. Parents of Junior applicants are also expected to support their children when playing competition tennis by assisting with team transport or managing a team.
Senior applicants who have played tennis previously will be made welcome and be graded into a team if they wish to play competition. For Seniors who have not played tennis previously, or want to brush up on their skills, coaching is available through our Club Coaches. Players who are considering joining the Club are invited to play as a visitor on Sunday afternoons from 1.30pm for them to assess the Club.
